History of Jamii Aid Network

The name “Jamii” comes from a Swahili (One of Kenyan National languages) word meaning
‘Communities’. Jamii Aid Network was founded in Anding’o Village within Uriri Sub County, a community
within Migori County in Kenya as a Community Based Organization in 2015. The group helped to lobby
for access to basic social amenities such as water, food, farm equipment, etc. Anding’o Area was a village
prone to harsh weather conditions whereby during the times of rainy seasons almost the entire village
would be ravaged and swept away while during dry seasons the sun could be so scorching. JAN would
help in soliciting for staples such food stuffs and even tents to help the affected families during the
times of disaster.
